The only thing that people from Everett worry about is their cheeeeeep taxes. God forbid that they need a Prop. 2 1/2 override for schools--It would go down in flames. But, their taxes are low and that is all that counts to them. In the end--IF THE GOOD LORD WANTED TO GIVE THE WORLD AN ENEMA--HE WOULD STICK IT IN EVERETT
I brought my first house in Everett simply cause the tax were low, lived there for 20 years.
Then I move to Florida in 1998 and Everett went downhill ever since.
I was up there 3 weeks ago and its STILL a dump with all the minorities moving in who don't care about keeping up their properties.its a shame.
You know, I find it funny that so many people on these forums mention that when they moved from State X the immigration 'problem' and crime was getting out of hand; so they moved to Florida.

I agree with K-LUV! I lived in Florida for 13 years where I worked as a paramedic. The things I saw, no one would believe! I guess sahara does not get out much! From the homeless on the street, home invasion to shootings it's all there! Doesn't matter where you live in Florida! I've seen it the Keys to Tallahassee. a few places better than others.
I came back to Everett to buy a home, possibly bought it from sahara!
Everett is still the best place to live and bring up children! You can walk your dog a 3AM or just by yourself and have no problems, no problems what so ever! since I've come back, it has changed yes, but doesn't everything? And I can say that it has it's share with the influx of people (which is going on everywhere?) it happened in Florida a long time ago but, the people who chose to live in Everett most have manners, do not let their yards go and have the same goals in mind. Everett is THE LAST of the Mohegan and they want a safe/clean place to bring up and educate their children!
Perhaps, sahara hasn't checked out the crime rate here. and can't remember the tree lined streets that form a tunnel over them on a mild sunny day and speak to Everett neighbors wishing them a "good morning, even if she didn't know them personally." Oh, I forgot to mention the beautiful flowers growing in 95% of yards and yards spit shined!
We still don't have to worry about locking our doors sahara, either....You can't remember?
It's funny, I actually find the white people in Everett more frightening than any of the other races I've seen around that town. My boyfriend lives on the Malden/Everett line and I took the bus to go see him. It was my first time on that bus route and I got off a few stops too early. Very seldom have I been so scared just to stand on the sidewalk alone! I had to wait inside the White Hen next to the cashier's station until my boyfriend came and picked me up! Maybe I'm paranoid, but I just think the place is NOT nice.
OK, this is a very delayed response, but since this topic was about my hometown, I figured I'd chime in for posterity's sake. I'm currently in my 20s but spent my first 18 years living in Everett.
Anyway, I'd like to address a few of the issues people seem to have with the city:
Diversity/Minorities
When I was growing up, I LOVED the diversity in Everett. When I was a kid, my two best friends were a Portuguese boy and a Puerto Rican girl and I remember going to dinner at each of their houses and being completely enchanted by the different languages they spoke in their homes. In high school, my circle of friends included a Bosnian, Albanian, Brazilian, and Serbian - all of them refuges and all them with a number of stories that made me feel ashamed to ever really complain about my living situation or my country. When I entered a very white, prestigious private school after high school, I learned that not everyone grew up in this kind of environment and I think I was much, much better for it.
I also don't understand why everyone has so many issues with the influx of Brazilians. OK, so Brazilians chose Everett as a destination - and they're obviously doing a lot for Everett's economy and businesses since they've managed to buy up and run so many of them. In a lot of cases, they bought businesses and just added a Brazilian flag to it. The Everett old-timers seem to think that things like laundromats change drastically just because the awning is now yellow and green. I'm still waiting for someone to explain whether the mechanics of washers and dryers actually change if they're owned by a Brazilian.
I personally love the new stores and restaurants when I'm in town, and it's nice to see people actually playing sports like soccer in the parks (when I was younger, no one did ANYTHING in the parks aside from kids getting high or drinking at night). Our "Multi-Cultural Day" that EHS had been putting on since it was just a town of Italians and Irish, was completely revamped with demonstrations of capoeira, various Brazilian dances, not to mention how all of the other "new" cultures added at least something to the event. Instead of being a lame high school event that I otherwise would have skipped, I found myself skipping as many classes as possible and serving on various committees just so I could spend the whole day in the gym.
Safety:
I'll also say that as a perfectly intelligent and cautious young woman, I often walked cross town to get home from parties or friend's houses, by myself, at 1, 2 or occasionally 3 a.m. I used to go for runs at Glendale Park at midnight in the summer (to avoid the heat) and was never so much as approached by anyone "sketchy." One interesting point to put things into perspective: I now feel less safe walking around Brookline late at night than I ever felt walking around Everett. I've heard of more women getting attacked in Brookline than I've ever heard of getting attacked in Everett and my boyfriend has been mugged in Brookline Village.
Everett appears to be heading more toward gentrification than anything else - the huge suburban-like shopping center, the new shiny gigantic high school, and heck, the last time I was in town I saw a SUSHI place. I go back to visit my friends who still live there, and I see so many young couples in their twenties pushing around strollers. There's also a Panera! I predict a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's within 10 years.
Living in Everett for a few years, I do think the city is a bit run down and dirty. However, the city seems pretty safe, with the exception of an occasional loud-mouthed drunk yelling out his car window as your walking down the street at 11pm. If you go about your business, you shouldn't have a problem.
every city you go there is a major crime problem, just because you do not see it a open as it is in the city there is one, I drive a taxi was attacked by a fare because he did not like the price and in all the place where this took place was in a city where bad things never happened in the CITY OF MELROSE and in front of the house of a MELROSE police sergeant who calls me the next day to ask me if it took place in front of his house, if i was dead who will he had call?
all cities in MASS are a mess, no jobs, no work any where but plenty of DRUGS to buy at any time.
junkies need money to buy them, junkies cant get a job so they become thieves that brake in your house, cars business and other property you own to feed their habit.
and is all white, yellows, brown and even if the blue people like the smurfs were real they will be part of the problem as well
