Default NYC to boston day before Thanksgiving - is the LI ferry a better option?

better to go down the island, take the ferry to New london and then into boston, vs 95 all the way? We would be leaving from north brooklyn.

Seems to me the real value of the ferry to New London is if you're already out on Long Island and would have to drive west through heavy traffic to get to the bridges over the sound. You're beginning at the western end of L.I. so no advantage there. Don't know what the LIE eastbound will be like--that can be very rough--but from New London north should be easy. If you drive off the island consider 684 to 84 east. 684 is very good; 84 will be patchy through Hartford but there are some workable 2-lane alternatives if it's too heavy. Beware the Sturbridge entrance to the Mass Pike at the end of I-84; it can be better to get off an exit or two early and take U.S. 20 east for a stretch to avoid that bottleneck.

I would take the Cross Sound Ferry route, just make sure you aren't using the LIE during rush hour, in either direction.
