My family of three - plus two cats - is potentially moving to the Boston area in the next few months. We'll be renting to start, and I keep seeing "no pets" in apartment listing. How challenging will it be to find a 2+ bedroom rental (in Newton, Brookline, Belmont or similar) that will allow the two cats?

Welcome. It is possible to rent with pets. You can find listings through Craigslist, Boston.com, or Realtor.com. If you run into any trouble feel free to drop me a line. I usually know of a few places that are pet friendly. (ps. Just an fyi in case your kitties go outdoors, we have lots of fisher cats & foxes around here that prey on cats. We keep ours indoor these days.)

Much easier than dogs. Try searching on CL for apartments listed by owners, rather than brokers. Working directly with a landlord is easier and they can be more accommodating if they have met you. Besides, you'll save a lot of money and usually there is less fake listings in that part of CL (brokers regularly post apartments that don't exist at a lower price to get you to call, then they make an appointment to see the place, and five minutes before your appointment, as you're driving there, they call and tell you it was just rented).
