I will be moving to Boston in a couple of days, my first time in this part of the world and am excited about it. However, don't know a single soul in Boston and that's a first too, I usually know someone or the other wherever I moved to.

What's the best way to meet people around Boston and make new friends? I am a 27 year old single, minority guy.

Since you are in Lexington, there is a great church there that you may want to check out. Over a thousand people go there and it has lots of events and opportunities to meet people. Not sure what faith, if any, you practice so I apologize in advance if this has offended you in any way. I just wanted to mention it in case you are interested. We recently started going there and it's fabulous:

Hey thank you very much for the advise, really appreciate it. However, I don't go to Church as I am not religious, so that leaves one option out for me , I will try to meet people through work and hobbies, etc etc for now I guess.

Nothing against Lexington, but any particular reason why you chose it? Admittedly I haven't spent a ton of time there but it seems like more of a family oriented town to me. A lot of towns in the area have younger, less attached demographics and characters.

Directly so the south of Lexington is the 'city' of Waltham where there are tons of college and graduate students, lots of restaurants, bars, and a lively downtown. There are also two commuter rail stops in Waltham and buses that serve Boston. Its also a bit more accessible to Boston and other areas being connected to the turnpike.

East of Waltham you have Watertown with lots of restaurants, bars, shops, a mall, path to walk / bike along the river, and bus access to Boston and Cambridge.

Further east you've got Somerville with a lot of students and young professionals.

My point is it will be easier to make new friends if you're in an area with stuff going on and peers. Boston also has a lot of active Meetup groups that you could try out.

If you're at all into sports, look into organizations like Boston Ski and Sports Club and Social Boston Sports. Even if you're not a jock type, maybe a fun kickball league would be a good place to meet people.

Maybe see if the Cambridge Center for Adult Education offers any classes in areas that interest you.
