Most parts of Boston are safe. That most definitely is and so are the surrounding neighborhoods. However if you don't like Italians (or as PPs point out, if they don't like YOU) it might not be your best choice. Essentially, it is this:

Nice photo.. looks very touristy. Well just when I was beginning to feel relaxed a "friend" told me there is a serial rapist in the north end of Boston. Tried to find out about this on the internet but can't find anything that sounds current. Any word on this?

I know there is crime everywhere.. certainly plenty around here.. just want her to arm her with any info that might be helpful.

As I said, there have been a string of sexual assaluts in the neighborhood (then again, there are sexual assaults in every neighborhood). I used to walk home in the wee hours alone and never had a problem but you do have to be on alert.

It's an extremely touristy neighborhood. That part grated on me more than anything. On a summer weekend it could be a pain just to walk home through the throngs of people who didn't understand that the North End was actually a real neighborhood, not just a place to have dinner. I was once sitting on the steps of my building when a couple of tourists plopped down and asked my friend to put out his ciagrette!

Does anyone know of a place to park an out of state car overnight near the North End? Thanks again.

Look for one of these signs. Every street usually has a couple spaces for visitors. Also, the Government Ctr Garage is $10 between 5pm and 5am.

This is correct. You're not finding anything because it's not necessarily rape and not necessarily the same person (a woman over the summer was grabbed and groped). I believe most of the assaults happened late at night (after 11PM).

It's a fun place to live. The North End is Boston's little Italy as well as a big historical spot (eg., Paul Revere's house). It's densely populated and a dining and tourist madhouse. I'm female and I wouldn't hesitate to live there because of safety. The only reason why I wouldn't live there is because it can be very bustling, but that's not a bad thing if you're new to Boston, young and want to be in the thick of things.

You'll probably have to park overnight in a garage. Parking is tough in the area for those with resident stickers. Parking for none resident cars is severely limited. You may find a visitor spot, but I'd resign myself to parking in an overnight garage. Take a few min and drive around. You may luck out, but don't get too upset if you don't find anything. The $10-$25 for parking is worth it over the elevated blood pressure and wanting to poke your eyes out after driving around for half and hour with no luck.

Thanks Shiver - I would be happy to park in an overnight garage but I didn't see any after driving in circles narrowly avoiding cars parked on corners etc.. do you know the name of any and the streets they are located on?

Most of garages will be on the outskirts of the North End since it's so densely built up; but we're talking a 10 min walk.

I googled "parking garages near the north end" and here's a starting point. It lists most of the places I was thinking about.

Boston Parking Garages near North End, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, Aquarium
