After people look at some SAT score (from MA department of education)....it is easy to decide...
Saugas SAT- 498(V) 496(M)
Melrose SAT - 534(V) 531(M)
Westboro SAT - 563(V) 594(M)
Wellesley SAT - 603(V) 617(M)
Of course, a 3 bedroom starter in Wellesley cost about $600K.

Melrose would be great for you. Safe and you can drive to Oak Grove, park your car(weekends are good) with parking. Oak Grove has a lot(i think 3$) and head to work. Saugus is actually a very nice area, but again, it's depends what part. Closer to Revere line(stay away), look in to Fellsway Pkwy(beautifull), all streets that are close to Juniper Dr is awesome(very expensive). Saugus and Melrose are very close to Boston area
Good luck

I work with a girl that moved her family right out of Saugus & the Peabody area over 2 years ago. She told us the main reason was drugs, they're running rampant there. She said it's worse now than ever before. She said it's like she died and went to heaven when they finally sold their place and moved out of there and she's FROM there, that shows you how bad it is these days, it's such a shame, it used to be wonderful to raise your kids any where around the greater Boston area. Her teenage kids adjusted very well too all through this ordeal. There were a couple of issues due to always wanting to go back to see their old friends, but they did it, they're doing very well now and have all adjusted to their new town and lives.
My parents did it years ago in the late 70's! There were 5 of us and they packed it in good and moved to another completely different state, not just another town. My younger sister went crazy over it, but you know? To this day, she's the one that's adjusted quite nicely, thank you very much to her life, it's one move that my parents never ever regretted making. You have to do what you have to do. I'd be the same way if I had kids, let me tell you. If I hear of or see of one tragedy with overdoses or hear or see it's near me, I'd move so fast your head would spin.
It's not going to get you or your family if you're strong and live your life the way YOU want to live it, I refuse to get dictated by this society now, it's not right and it's sinking fast. It's up to all of US to rise above it all.
Okay I said my thing...like I said, listen up good to what people are telling you about these different areas, they're right!

that's right, move away quickly because drugs don't exist in the rich suburbs. ..the op is right run don't walk from the drug havens!!!! (sarcasm)
Once again, i shouldn't have to explain this but YES the drugs are in every town..some more than others.... but don't think that moving away from these towns will completely rid you of the drugs/crime.....in our town we've had kids die from drunk driving, overdoses, suicides...these things happen in rich communities where oeioke seem to think drugs don't exist.....

Not having lived in Saugus but after reading enough about it and the schools, I would say the answer should be obvious. People that don't have kids, not that you don't, often don't look at the big picture such as schools, test scores, quality of life, quality of teachers and giving their kids the best possible future. I would rather rent a dump and have my kids go to a great school than have a really nice place with a lousy school. Just my humble opinion as a mom.

Have you checked out Arlington? Great community, very safe, good schools, reasonable prices, adjacent to Cambridge.

If you end up choosing Westboro you could also take the Commuter Rail to Cambridge on snowy days - a longer commute but much less stressful! For nearby medical facilities to work at there are several places in nearby Worcester (15-20 minutes away) - Fallon Clinic, UMASS Medical Center, St Vincent's Hospital. There is also a rehab center in Westboro called Whittier and clinic nearby at Southboro Medical.
Best of luck & please feel free to touch base if you have other questions.

Deciding on schools based on SAT scores is ridiculous. Everyone has different criteria to good schools. Some schools also teach to pass the MCAS, which is not my idea of a good education. Best bet is to visit the schools, talk to the teachers and judge for yourself. Saugus is fine. I agree with Melrose, it is a great town.
