Meh, Brookline, Cambridge, Newton, Somerville, Chelsea etc feel just as much part of Boston as Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Eastie, West Roxbury, etc. But I feel like that's another controversy for another thread...

My point was that the "bigger" city is the one with more people in the same amount of space.

Rather than extend Boston by 40 square miles I could've shrunk Baltimore and Atlant by 40 and 60 square miles respectively and still would've had the same results I think. 80 just seemed like an easier number to use.

You guys are so Boston.

Re: "bodymore murdaland"...I watched The Wire too. Great show. Really great.

Re: trolling...I was googling "why do people act like Boston is great when it is actually crap" because I was genuinely curious, and I came across this thread.

I also came across this story, which perhaps expresses it all better than I did: Pretty Cute Watching Boston Residents Play Daily Game Of

It's not so much that Boston isn't a nice, decent-sized city, it's just that Bostonians talk a *much* bigger game than they have any right to. If the attitude displayed in this thread (which is representative) were toned down, you might start making some of those lists.

Regarding the midtown Atlanta comment, I lived there for five years, and you're simply dead wrong or lying. If you're from Boston, maybe you assume that nothing happens after nightfall...either way, you should get out a little more.

There-fore, Bos-ton is big-ger.

Do you un-der-stand?

I am speak-ing Eng-lish.

You should be embarrassed about this.

Boston is A LOT bigger than both of those cities.
Why do people obsess over population figures? Historically excess population causes catastrophe, societal collapse and die off. Nature does not like overpopulation and when the sh*t hits the fan this time around the dense areas will suffer the most.

What killed Boston in that respect is the existence of the all the dinky little suburbs surrounding Boston that prevent it from growing. If you look at a map of the Boston area showing town boundaries, it is clear geographically that Brookline at the very least, should be annexed into Boston.

New York, Washington DC and Atlanta will be the premier east coast cities going forward because they all can grow.

Population doesn't matter. Borders don't matter. Boston is an infinitely better city than DC. DC might be the most boring big city in the country. New York, the filthiest and most overrated. Atlanta? Come on. Calling Atlanta an "east coast" city isn't really accurate either. It's a southern city. Like the only city they have down there. And it's basically just a giant suburb.

GO Boston!

Last time I checked the East Coast extends further than MD, all the way to the FL Keys in fact.

Let's see: Richmond, Charlotte, Miami, Tampa, Nashville. Not cities I guess?

I wouldn't say DC is boring. Boston has a better night life, DC has better museums/better economy. DC's suburbs are less stuck in the past. Both great cities, in different ways.

Murders per 100,000 year 2011:

Baltimore: 31.3

Boston: 10.1

Assaults per 100,000 year 2011:

Baltimore: 780.3

Boston: 485.1

Maybe you should check out reality as well.

Wait, you google "why do people act like Boston is great when it is actually crap", yet you are not a troll? Good to see you put your down time to good use.

I don't know what the heck you are talking about.

Most people in Boston either enjoy it for what it is, leave it if they want/can, or stay and suck it up.

And then you get your immature college kids who might be lacking in...
