Default Safety around Burney St. (Off of Tremont) in Mission Hill

So my friend and I are looking at an apartment on Burney St, right off of Tremont, in Mission Hill, right across from the Parker Hill Branch Library, and I'm a little nervous about the safety in that area. I know Tremont changes quick when you head towards the Rox. Crossing T stop, but it's hard to tell if this street falls in the iffy section. It almost seems to change right around there.

I've walked on Tremont plenty of times but usually I don't go past St. Alphonsus (coming from Brigham Circle), especially after dark, so I don't really have a feel for the area around Burney.

For a little background: I'm a 20 year old white female college student, and I've lived over by Ruggles on Columbus (which is not nearly as bad as some people have made it out to be) for the past year and a half and for the most part I've felt safe over there. I walk by myself a lot, so I really need to live somewhere where I can walk home at 9 or 10pm and feel mostly safe.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but if anyone has knowledge of the area or experience living over there it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me a little insight! Thanks!

I don't think that area is all too sketchy, particularly the closer you are to Tremont St. It's a bit run down, but I suspect most of the people living there aren't too interested in bothering their neighbors.

Side note, don't look at street view, there's a kid playing in a pile of trash, which just kind of ruins the image of the street. Best advice, though, is go walk around the area extensively, first at day time, then later when it's a bit darker. How does it make you feel? Ultimately, a place can be plenty safe, but if you are constantly anxious about walking through it, then it's not a good choice.

Why mention your race? To me it's not clear whether in that neighborhood being white makes you more or less of a potential victim.

Thugs might leave you alone because a crime against you would bring more heat into the area, whereas a black woman crime victim is just another blip to be ignored...

Sometimes people ask for race when asking about background. Just trying to give as much background as possible, didn't mean anything by it. I've seen the same in other people's posts so I was just kind of following a template.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to walk through it tomorrow night, see how it feels. Haha, I did look at the street view, which didn't give me the greatest impression, but glad to know that's a bad representation of the street.

While most people are too PC or just scared to mention race these days. some aren't. People who live in reality are aware that race can and does make a difference more times than not.

It's a little close to the xing, but not TOO bad. Still, a little close to Parker though. I don't know if I'd want my GF living there. I used to do a lot of work in the hill as your aware, day and night are very different when your on that side of it. If possible the closer to Brigham Circle, the better.

Being "PC" or "scared" has nothing to do with anything. I brought it up because I really want to know if people would give different answers to the original question depending on her race. In my eyes if that neighborhood is unsafe, it's unsafe for EVERYONE, not just white women.

Thanks for the responses. I'm also looking at places on Huntington, right by the Riverway T stop, close to where S Huntington starts. How is the safety around that area? I don't know much about it, but it seems relatively safe, since it's a main street and there seem to be people out a lot. Plus it's so close to public transportation...I felt very safe there during the day.
any advice on that area?

That area on Huntington is generally quite safe. All else being equal, I'd recommend it over the first location.
