Oh yeah, I forgot.

Generally speaking, most of Boston is generally safe. Very generally speaking, it doesn't go from "safe" to "murder row" from block to block, but it is still best to do your homework.

I've lived here all of my life and Boston has generally speaking gotten progressively safer, albeit much more expensive in the process. I'd only move here if you have a secured good paying job.

I think there are a lot of neighborhoods in Boston that are equally safe, aside from miniscule statistical variations... However, some neighborhoods may be more prone to a particular type of crime than others.

You're right in that there aren't a lot of places where the crime rate jumps dramatically from one side of the street to the other, but there are a couple of places where it changes pretty quickly (e.g. between the South End and Roxbury, or even Jamaica Plain and Roxbury).

I think you shouldn't obsess too much about finding the *absolute* safest neighborhood, and rather deciding what kind of lifestyle you want (urban/walkable, more suburban?) and then choosing among the several very safe options that exist.

Back Bay, Fenway, Beacon Hill, North End, Waterfront, Brookline, Allston, Brighton, West End, Downtown, City Point, Cambridge are all excellent. South End, East Broadway, JP, are second best.

Time out folks.

There is no neighborhood that rivals West Roxbury as far as safety, not even Beacon Hill. No half-rational person would challenge that.

And Cambridge (which actually has its share of crime), since when did that become part of Boston? please

It's a pretty big area south of South End and north of Milton. That's a pretty general statement and there are pockets within that area that I'd consider pretty safe and then there are pockets that are particularly sketchy.

Other than the above, I think Boston is pretty safe everywhere. But maybe I'm forgetting somewhere. All of Brookline is definitely safe. Cambridge is also entirely safe, except maybe I wouldn't walk alone at night in certain parts of east Cambridge and also in the immediate vicinity of those projects near Alewife.
I moved to JP, adjacent to the Orange line about a month ago and feel pretty safe here. I walk my dogs at night in the greenway that runs along the line and haven't had any issues.

JP has changed a real lot. You still need to be careful east of the Orange line in JP though.

True, but West Roxbury is just so boring! At least the other safe 'hoods have some life to them!

The OP has said nothing of what he's looking for in a neighborhood other than safety, so maybe West Roxbury would fit, but it's also an area that could drive some people crazy for various reasons.

That's not Boston, that's a suburb.

It doesn't really look suburban, though. Isn't it sort of a city itself?

West Roxbury is a neighborhood in Boston

West Roxbury | City of Boston

Cambridge is a whole 'nother city and not a suburb
