anyone know if i can replace 1 inch gas pipe used for stves on the second and third floor with 1/2 or 3/4 inch?

I wouldn't, pipes have there size for a reason. That pipe is feeding 2 floors, if you downsize it you'll probably lower the PSI. I would like 3/4 would be fine, but then there's the question......why'd the plumber use 1"?
