Perhaps it is the owner's fault, but the end result is the same.
For a pit bull breed in Boston:

For a pit bull breed in Lawrence, MA, you need to carry a $100K bond.

When my neighbor's PB 'got away from him', and I was on a public street with my toy brindle rat terrier (5lbs), and it attacked, that dog was less than 5 seconds away from having his head blown clean off.
I value my dog's life more than your dog's life (and probably more than yours).

The worst thing my dog can do (and has done) is **** on the rug. (well that, and lick your face incessantly).

I love dogs more than anything... I have a dog nanny, and my dogs live in pure luxury (my current one has a trust fund).

But I will feel comfortable walking my dog down the street when you have, as you say 'a bully breed', when you feel comfortable with me walking down the street with my MP5 slung over my shoulder. Fair is fair.

SuperSparkle, this isn't a thread for Pro-pitties vs anti-pitties. Keep that crap elsewhere. If you have nothing conducive to offer that will help Rosco find a loving home then please keep comments like comparing the breed to a gun out of my thread. Make your own thread if you want to go anti-bully breed. This is on the thread to do so.

Good luck in finding a home for Rosco. However, it's also important for any potential adopter to know their town or city's rules on owning a pit bull. And to know whether or not their homeowner's insurance policy bans owning one. Adopting certain breeds can be difficult, and for good reasons. Rosco seems like a nice tempered dog though. And don't get mad at those wary of pit bulls, since a poorly socialized one can do terrible damage to other living creatures. Instead be really pissed at the humans who own pit bulls and raise them to be aggressive towards humans and other dogs.

Bad stereotypes exist because of valid observations.

Any luck yet? Have they been able to track down the original owner? I suppose there is a chance there was some family emergency and they just could not make it back to get him. I will re-cross post. My FB pals and friends know better than to breed discriminate!

Thank you, oh self-appointed moderator of this forum.

I love dogs. All dogs (well, not the ones that are assessing whether to kill me or my dog). I hope that this dog gets a good home. I volunteer a ridiculous amount of my time to the MSPCA every week, and they get one hell of a donation when I keel over.

Please don't attack the messenger. I don't make the rules, I just quote them. I am neither pro nor con of any breed, as long as I am not put in personal jeopardy.

(BTW, to get a gun here took the same amount of paperwork as to get a pit, and I didn't need a bond).

City-Data is a forum that provides a lot of good and useful information and help for all. And it serves no purpose to segregate posts into threads that are either pro or anti any topic. A good and helpful thread is a balanced and respectful discussion of all aspects of the topic at hand. So therefore, it would be both unfair and misleading to have a thread such as this one be solely full of praise and rainbow sentiments for the pit bull breed.

Well trained and socialized dogs are always welcome to live in my neighborhood. But unfortunately, many dog owners are lax in raising and training their dogs properly and instead treat them as spoiled human children. But dogs can't be reasoned with words later on in a bad situation. And at least small dogs can be easily picked up and removed when they are an annoyance or threat to others. Pit bulls and larger breed dogs are much more difficult to handle when agitated. And they are also terriers, which mean that they have a stubborn temperament.

Anyway, there is one pit bull that lives in my area. A female rescue. And the owner has to walk her at very odd times of the day in order to avoid contact with other dogs, since she wants to fight them. Otherwise, she is very nice to strange humans.

Lastly, I hope that Rosco is already neutered. I just read a news article about cities having to deal with the high cost of no-kill shelters in this economic recession. And some city shelters are overburdened with large numbers of unwanted pit bulls. So it's especially important that all pit bulls be spayed and neutered. Only professional and knowledgeable dog breeders should be allowed to own unspayed and unneutered dogs. BTW all of my dogs and cats are spayed and neutered. And they are all rescues.

Default Check out this organization.

Here's a rescue house in Framingham that works only with pit bulls: Welcome to PittieLove Rescue.

I don't know how far from F'ham they go to find dogs from less specialized animal shelters, but this outfit may be worth a look. They also appear to be careful about where they place dogs, keeping up with local BSL ordinances, and really looking for a good fit for each dog when considering where to place the dog.

I have 2 seniors now that were orphans. They are both 14 years old. This is a beautiful dog. I do hope he finds a great home. They are such a sweet loveable breed contrary to popular belief. My wife is very understanding because she lets the boys up on my bed with me. It's a king sized bed so they are very comfortable. Besides if she doesn't like it there are 3 other empty bedrooms now that the kids are gone. But I would never tell her that. Not sure how someone could leave this little guy behind unless it was life threatening.
