Thanks for taking the time to get back to the members here.

LOL about finding the wrong Union Street. It's very true. Those different streets with the same name in different sections of the city are yet another confusing feature of Boston's roadway maze.

Sounds as if you got a good combination of the big tourist spots and some insider local culture. Sounds like a good experience. I was struck by the feelings you described having during your visit to Old North Church. Something that blows me away whenever I think about it is that ONC is a real church with an active congregation, and has been continually since the place was built in the 1720's or something like that. Kind of mind-blowing and humbling to have that unbroken connection to that time in history right here at a local spot. Certainly one thing that's very interesting about Boston is all the historic spots, large and small, interwoven into the everyday life of the city and the local area.

Glad you enjoyed your visit, and thanks again for relating your experience.

We will definitely return to Boston at some point and will give the lobster tail a try. I think I saw those in there and they looked great but were huge!

We couldn't believe how interwoven the history was throughout the city and as you said that service still is ongoing in those old churches. We would have loved to catch a service there, but didn't get the timing of it right. Maybe next time. Out here in the northwest we are at a bit of a disadvantage with regards to the history you have on the east coast. I never appreciated the history of our country the way I should have. Seeing the history firsthand makes such a difference and easier to understand the events that took place. I feel as though we barely touched the surface. Amazing.

Boston is a great historical city. If we move out there that is the one thing I am afraid of missing most - East Coast history. I grew up near Philadelphia and that's another city with great history - but I think what the West lacks in history it makes up for in natural beauty...seems to be so much to explore!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your trip to Boston, and realize how much we take for granted. I lived in Massachusetts for much of my life, and don't get into Boston nearly as often as when I was younger... A lobster tail at Mike's is a must have EVERY trip--yes they are huge and worth every penny & calorie Memorial Day weekend weather was spectacular, wasn't it? II think it's been raining almost daily since we went back to work the following Tuesday... Anyway, thank you for sharing your experience.

Nice that you shared the trip experience. Many folks we advice never come back to tell their tales.

Anyways best advice is go to Boston on the Fourth of July. Be at City Hall at 8am sharp and you will be in for a real treat.

The weather was absoluely fantastic while we were there! My hair sure doesn't agree with the humidity, but wonderful! Wouldn't have asked for better weather.

And I would love to be in Boston for the 4th of July. Some day.....

We've lived in northern Idaho for the past ten years but my husband and I met and married when we lived in Boston. We're bringing our daughter back for two weeks in August. Not looking forward to the humidity but really looking forward to showing her our old stomping grounds.
We lived right downtown at One Devonshire Place. A big difference from remote nothern Idaho!

The two places are so different! I think our weather can be a little crazy which is like the east coast in ways; however, I do prefer the dry air here over the humidity any day!

Me too! I treasure the memories of Boston, but I love the rural west.
