Default areas in the city or around the city

I was thinking about visting the city to check out the different areas to move to. I am a 30 something single and like city life. Does anyone know of different areas for me to check into? I would like to live where you can walk to shopping and cafes. Can you buy a small house or townhome with a small back yard in the price range around $200,000? Thanks..

A townhouse in Boston with Backyard for $200K? I would be interested to find out where also. Last I heard, Median house price in Boston is $370K and Condo is $280K.

Default yeah right

boston is expensive it is even more than that. me and my boyfriend looked in the boston area and gave up after 2 days, the nicest toen right next to boston is newton i think. it is quiet there but close to the city, you get the best of both worlds. but it too is expensive. for 200K you might have to go down to bridgewater or more south.

if you have a job, you need to buy your dream maybe 350,000?
outside of Boston. West Bridewater may be a place to start looking. You are young, the market is down. If you are handy maybe you might buy a fixer up?

Hyde Park is cheap, relative to being in Boston. However it is not in the city.

J.P. also has some nice places, check out roslindale also. best of luck.

frankly you can not live in Boston for that price.

$200,000 won't get you much in Boston or the surrounding towns like Cambridge, Somerville, etc. You might consider renting to get a feel for the city. East Boston is a relatively affordable area, but even there, $200,000 won't go that far. You would have to go to the outer burbs. However, in New England, all the outer burbs are towns and cities with usually a town center that may have some urban vibes. You can look into Salem and Lowell for example. They won't be Boston but they are relatively affordable and have commuter rail to the city. Good luck.
