I don't understand that either. Much of Rte. 128 is part of I-95, which goes around Boston instead of through it.

BTW, OP: "State of MA?" It's the "Commonwealth of MA."

I think I95 going around Boston as part of 128 was supposed to be a temporary measure. I95 was intended to go through Boston as another pair of spokes into the Hub. On the north side I95 was to roughly follow the current Rt 1 into the city. I don't know the route it was to take on the south side.

that is a good question. I feel like this was a good time to invest in public transportation, promote a mor ec o friendly city.

Yes, the "Southwest Expressway" as it was planned. Much of the land had already been cleared for it, yet never got off the ground due to neighborhood opposition.

Southwest Expressway (I-95, unbuilt)

The Orange Line now lies in place of its northern planned right-of-way, along with the Southwest Corridor Park. Further south, all the empty land next to the RR through Hyde Park and Readville was to be part of it. You can also see how the 128/95 interchange is sort of half complete, as it was planned to have 95 continue north from there.
