I suggest that you simply find a cheap place to rent for a year... then you have more time to get yourself familiar with the area. I find it crazy for someone across the country to buy a house only after 24 hrs in the area. I know you said you live here before... but things change... feelings change. This way you don't have long term commitment.

Boy... do I sound like I have a commitment problem....

Thanks Smarty for that insight...but the commitment part I am not that worried about. It's not like I am moving there tomorrow and first I have to sell my home here in MI which may be a project all in itself. I have family in the area so its not like I am moving there totally out of the blue. I have all winter to check it out
