Yes. They seem shorter and smaller, and the women seem taller. Maybe it has something to do with running? Or maybe it's just that you see skinny little runners out all the time, so that gives you the impression every guy is smaller?

I wondered if it was just me that noticed that. I am only 5"6" and I tower over so many of the men here! I wonder if the lack of year round sun stunts their growth!

The Midwest has more German and Dutch descendants than the East Coast, which may be a reason.
There are more blond people too (and unfortunately more heavy people).

I think you answered your own question. I would say 75% of white folks here are Irish or Italian.

LOL!

That would explain A LOT about people in this city (including myself).

People from here are generally type A personalities mixed with the drivers/road rage....I think we can trace this all back to drinking Dunkin Donuts at such young ages.

Is it just a misconception? Anyone else noticed that too?
I really swear that men look at women of 5'6" in height as tall. There is something wrong in the water, here. They are taller in Ireland, UK, etc.

Most of the men range from 5'8" to 5'10". The 5'8" number has a high population of the men. Women in Massachusetts range from 5'0" to 5'3". Most hover around 5'1". The Framingham Study has confirmed this. These numbers are below the US population norms.

5'9"!!! Wow, where did you see him?

Most of the men here are 5'5" and under. It's the weather. Makes us grow short and wide.

I'm 6'1 and definitely notice that I see far more of the tops of mens heads here in Boston

Ive also noticed that, in general, the women are far smaller on average. Not just in height but they just seem more petite.

Of course, Im a giant so theres that.

Maybe it's because most women wear high heeled shoes? I think that the men and women are about equal in height barefoot... so then their choice of footwear makes all of the difference.

Not sure what sun has to do with size. I'm from Cleveland, another place not especially known for it's sunny days, and I'm a hair over 6' 1''...
