Looking at a really nice place right near this intersection for my girlfriend and me. I've done some reading about Dorchester on here, and this place seems to be right on the border of a nicer neighborhood and a less nice neighborhood. Anyone know more about this spot?

Thanks!

It's kind of a little nook that somehow survived urban blight that impacted everything around it. Yes it is a pretty little section. It is pretty much surrounded by an ugly mess in every direction except once you cross the highway east Savin Hill is nice albeit tiny. The UMASS campus is there too, but they did everything possible to make it inaccessible.

The inner city begins at Dudley and Columbia. Savin Hill to the east is an old world Irish stronghold. North is Andrew Sq and South Bay, the filthiest section of the city. NE is Carson Beach and Pleasure Bay which is f-ing paradise in the good weather. Dot ave is scrappy but survivable. You'd have a good hoof to public transit hubs - might be a lil uncomfy late hours.

You'd need to be bit streetwise to live there I think. The very neighborhood itself would be fine I think, but getting in an out of it would probably be the gauntlet. If the broken glass theory holds, well there's a lot broken around there. It would be fine for Mickey Rourke. No go for Kim Kardashian.

Considering what Kim and the other "Kartrashian" sisters seek out for male companionship I think she'd be happy there.
Ditto what's already been said, you'd be right on the fringe of not-so-nice and also fairly distant from any MBTA service. In the '90s I had friends who lived just off Pleasant a few blocks up from there. Their street consisted of maybe as many as a half-dozen houses on either side of the street. The street at one end of the block (Pleasant St) was a tranquil and gentrifying oasis. The one at the other end (Bakersfield St) contained boarded-up buildings and shady characters. Such holds true for a lot of Dorchester.

Goy, I kinda thought about and was actually going to say that hood prolly wouldn't be too comfy for that dude - what's his name - kanye either. Can you see him hoofing it up to the Andrew Sq station or standing on the corner at Uphams Corner waiting for the bus?
