What do you like best about Boston?
I like the safety, economy, and education.
Opps I messed up on the poll (you can only choose one favorite.)

Here's why I like the people. On Oct 27, 2007 my wife and I took our daughter to Boston's Emerson College, she's thinking of going there next year to study and also play basketball. We'd never been to Boston. As soon as we left the Commons parking we noticed something different about peole in the street. It seemed like everyone was making eye contact with us. Not in a hostile way, mostly friendly. The whole day we met some really nice people. I was trying to figure out what it is, what makes Boston different. We learned from the owner of a restaurant in a food court. He said it's the students here. He listed all the colleges that are here and said the student population make up about 20% of the population of the city. And he said he loved that, he said he lived in many places, many cities but here the students are so wanting to make a positive difference that they give you life. At the end of the day, my daughter who wants to play for the college basketball team, said if the basketball coach shows some interest in her, her bags are already packed: it's definitely Boston!

Walkability, very strong sense of community in neighborhoods and towns, easy access to nature and parks, architecture and history, good schools and libraries, safety. Like me, I am sure few would say weather, although I do appreciate the seasons.

I like Boston because you can be smart and intelligent and not stand out like a sore thumb. I love overhearing conversations bout quantum mechanics and the latest hot place to dine. The students keep the city young, and the cultural and historic institutions keep the roots of education well planted.

Otis: The college students are generally the only ones like that, and they are the same EVERYWHERE in the nation. College students are laid back and you'll find them to be warm, open, and inviting whether you're in Boston or Idaho.
Wealthtrader: You forgot about culture! I like the museums best.

To Parsec
You said college students are like that everywhere in the country...well I work in downtown Philly and when I visited downtown Boston, the Commons area (Emerson College) I was comparing apples to apples and what I was saying in the above post is that there was no comparison between the 2 cities! We have Penn & Drexel and Temple here but we don't have the openness or friendliness or the excitement or whatever it is that Boston has over Philly. And I agree with that restaurant owner in Boston who said its the college age young people who supply the life. We have them here also but statistically speaking its an insignificant percentage of the population, up there its a quantum (is that spelled right?) leap more. Love you Boston folks!
