The news says cicadas are expected to emerge this year in the east coast, after 1996.
Are they found in Boston area too? I think Boston is probably too cool for them.

Yes it does. I am certain of it. I still remember during hot summers when I was little and tagging along with my dad who was a real estate developer in the South End....and I wondered what the constant noise was. My dad explain it to me, and it was confirmed by a friend who was with the Arnold Arboretum later. I am not sure where in the cycle we are at this point.

They are due back here in 2025. In 2008, they weren't that bad but 1991 UGH. I remember along with their eerie song, the sound of them crunching underfoot and car tires and running, head covered from house to car to avoid getting creepy crunchy critters stuck in my hair.

They would be a great source of protein, except that we Americans have such sensitive palate and narrow view of what's edible in our mind (Imagine a fat girl who stuffs her face with chicken McNugget but turning her nose to fried cicada....and yet the cicada would be much better for her and her waste-line). I think we should eat anything that we consider pest instead of using poison to get rid of them. Man as a specie has a great ability to defeat natural foes by eating them out of existence.

Born, Raised and Lived in Boston my entire life (until 2009) when I moved to VA. Never once heard of a Cicada prior to the move.

No - Boston, MA definitely 100% DOES NOT have 17 year cicadas. They have annual cicadas, as is common across Massachusetts. 17 year cicadas from Brood 14 live in Mass on Cape Cod in the towns of Bourne, Sandwich, Mashpee, Falmouth, and Barnstable. Why listen to me? Born and raised in Mass, I've been following Brood 14 since experiencing the 1974 emergence as a kid living in Bourne. I lived in Boston in 1991 and can attest no periodic cicadas.

Googles will back me up on this:
