Default commiting from Nashua NH to North Station area

Hello new City-Data.com friends! We're a family of 6 hoping to make a move from the Netherlands to the Boston area in the summer of 2008. I (the mom) am doing my homework and have been for 2 years now on possible areas/schools etc. I've fell in love with Nashua NH and a school there (Nashua Christian Academy) and am wondering about the experiences of any of you especially regarding the commute from Nashua to the North Station area in Boston (where my husband would be working). He will also be travelling a lot, so the commute isn't such a terrible thing, but we are wondering if he's going to be on the road forever. Any helpful hints for us? Thanks in advance for anything you might come up with ,
pkluttik

Driving from Nashua to Boston wouldn't be a fun commute. What your husband may want to consider is taking the car from Nashua to Lowell, where he can pick up the T and go directly into North Station. Here's the schedule for the Lowell train station: MBTA Commuter Rail > Lowell Line Schedules and Maps

My friend travel from Nashua to Boston everyday. The only thing is he has to leave the house at 5:30am and leave work before 4pm (more like 3:30pm). The commute time is ~55minutes. However, if you start an half hour later, you could double your commute time.

You can also check out the new bus that started this year:
The Boston Express
It only stops at South Station (about 15 min walk to North Station) and Logan Airport though.

Are you set on that school or are you still in the deciding stages of where to live? Nashua is a miserable commute into Boston especially any time between 6:30am and 8:30am and again from 4:30 and 6:30 pm. Your husband could be on the road for over an hour. Our you interested in Massachusetts homes or are you strictly looking to NH only?

I can try and help you, I went to Mass College of Pharmacy for college and commuted to Boston everyday and my husband commutes there every day now. My dad commutes to Somerville (5-10 minutes outside the city). I live in Methuen, Mass (20-25mins) outside the city(north on the NH border). Let me know if I can help you.

Nashua to Boston would be a nightmare commute unless your husband has a high tolerance for pain. I would consider someplace much closer. Good luck.

Trust me lots of people do it, that is why traffic is a problem. It not unmanageable though. Nashua a very nice quiet place and rent is definitely much cheaper than most of eastern MA (as well as car insurance too, most likely).

If your husband likes to bicycle it could work out very well as there's a nice paved bicycle trail from Nashua to Ayer which ends up right at the commuter rail which takes you to north station. (Nashua River Rail Trail)

Even if not it is not much of a drive at all to Ayer but that is almost at the end of the line so it is a little over an hour to get into the city from there.
