Brendan Behan in Jamica Plain is all the nightlife most people need. Good beers, good bartenders, and good music.

Strangely enough, I've heard great things about that pub as well!

This is pretty true, and I do love Boston as a city, it is its residents who seem not to have the time or inclination to acknowledge anyone that they don't know except maybe to glare or honk at you. Fun when you go out with people that you know and live there- oddly unfriendly otherwise.

Saw this thread as I was browsing. I haven't been to Boston yet, but people say you go there to see the history and do the tourist things. The nightlife is very bland from what others say. Hehe. Still can't wait to visit someday.

Let me preface this by saying I do not think Boston has elite nightlife at all, it is pretty middle of the road and could be alot better, but people are really not exploring the city and its diversity at all.

When I hear people speak about bland nightlife and uptight people they must be speaking about only one community are section of the city. How many of you are planning on going to Carnival this year and any of the events surrounding it? I know many are "scared" to associate in places like big bad Dorchester or Revere or wherever is hosting to events but trust me you are not at risk of anything other than having a good time. How about Brazilian, Cape Verdean events? I am not Brazilian, only know a few phrases in Portuguese but I have had a great time at these events personally.

People who are stuck to only going downtown or to Fanuiel Hall will find a very limited slice of what Boston has to offer, there are many other communities that people insist on ignoring for some odd reason.

True that.

And unless you're 20 years old, what exactly is the allure of staying out past 2AM anyway. Give me a nice Irish pub, a few pints, and some friendly folk and I'm all set. And home by 11:30 PM.

No clubs to go to after 2 AM.
Very few fun places to go that are 24x7

The streets feel dead early most nights, and there just aren't that many fun places to go. I have a good job here and like the City, but I wish the nightlife wasn't so incredibly bad.

Well, if you consider going to clubs to be your idea of "nightlife", I guess you will be disappointed. I never went to a single club in Boston in all of my years (18 to 40's) in Boston. Too busy going to classical music concerts in the evening.

Boston people are not that friendly thats the problem. I grew up in Boston and now live in the South and the women in the South are gorgeous and friendly.. if a girl is gorgeous in Boston is most times a gold digger or a ragging b.itch.. sad but true tale.

Tell me about it.. I grew up in Newton. Boston has some of the best colleges in the country but the nightlife sucks. People in Boston are not that outgoing and friendly.. lot of the elitist college students are dorky and can't party. The good looking women in Boston are taken or if they are gorgeous straight up gold diggers that want their mate to be a doctor or lawyer. I actually like the West Coast and South better than Boston.. people are way more social and outgoing.
