The Home Depot here was definitely a Bradlees for a long time, so I would assume a Stop & Shop was next door, because they owned Bradlees and usually paired stores with them. But I also get the feeling it may have been either an A&P or Grand Union. And many former JM Fields big-box stores ended up as Bradlees; JM Fields was owned by the Pantry Pride supermarket chain of Philadelphia, which had been known as Food Fair in the 50s but changed their name to Pantry Pride as they moved upscale. Usually Pantry Pride and JM Fields stores were paired with one another as with Bradlees and Stop & Shop, so it would be possible all four businesses were once represented in Chelsea.

Not a single reply...

Anyway, the area where the Save-a-Lot, Xpression, Gentle Dentle, and Home Depot is used to be, in the same order, Stop N Shop, Walgreens, and Bradlees. Stop N Shop used to be the size of both Save-a-Lot and Xpression. I've heard before Walgreens, it was MediMart.

The Stop and Shop/Bradlees/Walgreens trio was once very common throughout this region and this was only one such location. Walgreens locations in such trio locations used to all be MediMarts which I believe were also owned by Stop and Shop before being changed over to Walgreens. Other such trio plazas were located in Somerville and Roslindale. Plazas in Everett, Hyde Park, and Dorchester had the Stop and Shop and Walgreens minus the Bradlees.

Stop and Shop/Bradlees were once one company as well. I believe the Star Market/Osco pair was something similar.
