Would you rent an apartment in a great location with no stove?

If you have, how'd you cook? Crock pot? Rice cooker?

Thanks,

B.

No, because I like to cook. I have plenty of friends for whom that wouldn't be a big deal though--they eat out/get takeout for the majority of their meals.

If you don't cook often, I would think you could get by with a hot plate, toaster oven, microwave an counter-top grill.

I thought the landlord had to provide you with a stove? What kind of apartment is this?

I've seen ads for a ton of apartments w/o full kitchens. most are really tiny "efficiency" studios w/ "kitchenettes"- small fridge, sink, maybe a hotplate if you're lucky. some places are like SRO with private bathrooms. some are renovated (and possibly illegal) basement or attic apartments

personally for me, I need a kitchen. eating out all the time is so pricey and there's only so much you can do w/ a toaster oven and slow cooker

No, because these types of places are generally one really small room with a shared bathroom. Doesn't matter how great the location is, paying $800+ a month for a closet is not worth it.

Personally, I would. I would use my microwave, george foreman grill, toaster oven, & slow cooker.

I do a lot of cooking for myself, but rarely on the stove or in the oven. The only time I think I would miss it is at Thanksgiving (for making a turkey).

You can buy a small convection oven, which looks like a large toaster oven, that can roast large things like meats. They have a spinning rotisserie you can attach for such purposes. They are large enough to make a good sized pizza as well.

If everything else about the apartment was good, I would do it.

I probably wouldn't rent the apartment not so much because of the lack of stove, but because I've seen those apartments and they're typically a room in someone's house or a tiny efficiency studios that are akin to basic dorm rooms (I've been in one on Newbury St).

In terms of the stove, look at what you make and eat now. You may be able to get by with a microwave, good hot plate (boil water for pasta), crockpot/rice cooker, Foreman grill, toaster oven, etc. (if there is room for it!).

I have a propane, 2 burner, stainless steel, table top camp stove that I got for $60 at a camping store and a 20 lb refillable propane tank from home depot. It folds to the size of an attache case and boils water in a couple minutes. I have a full size kitchen, I use it because the electric goes down a lot in my area. You could take it with you when you move again.
