47K is going to net you about $2500-$2600 a month after taxes and deductions such as health insurance (based on working at another local university - though health insurance for families is a lot more expensive than my single cost, so YMMV). I think a 3 bedroom might be out of reach - in reality, your max rent should only be $1200 to keep your rent at 30% of income - especially when you consider the cost of heating can be hundreds of dollars a month in the winter. Unfortunately, you're going to have to think outside the box to find a 2 bedroom that cheaply, though it can be done!

"Try searching around Braintree, Weymouth, or Quincy for rentals. You might be able to find something within your budget..."

From a poster called 'gamma' in the Massachusetts list...he found a ONE bedroom in Quincy with 800 sq ft, at $1,200 a month, utilities NOT included.
