Does anyone remember a place to eat, on or near Newbury Street, I think, it was called Jasper's.

Went there in early 1980's and it was good. It was mentioned on St Elsewhere. It was the favorite place of the chief of staff. What a great show.

Is it still there ? it seemed a very solid, traditional place, not trendy.

If memory serves me right the owner/chef was Jasper White. He now has Jasper White's Summer Shacks at various locations including one in Cambridge, MA.

Unfortunately, I don't know, but thought of Jadper White also...maybe that was his local eatery until he fully prospered?

Never watched St. Elsewhere even though I live here then and now. I surely never see it in syndication on cable. I wonder why...

Don't ask me why, but over the weekend I was thinking the very same thing. I believe St Elsewhere was the starting point for both Denzel Washington and Mark Harmon. You would think that might be syndication gold. But it seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Same with that cop show that was pre-NYPD Blue, but also had Dennis Franz and was based in Chicago. (edit: From wikipedia, St Elsewhere also included Howie Mandel, Ed Begley Jr, and David Morse. What a cast.) (edit: The cops show is Hill Street Blues.)

Sorry for the threadjack, no idea about the restaurant. By the time I got to Boston, Washington Street was a huge, wide-open mess as the Orange Line had been relocated and the el structure demolished, and St Elsewhere was already cancelled.

Loved that show! In addition to the amazing cast, they brought in so many character actors like Betty White, James Coco and Doris Roberts - whoever cast the drama was a genius. Jasper's is long gone, but Jasper White still cooks locally at the various Summer Shack locations - one near the Pru and another at the Alewife T stop.

Hill Street Blues was an amazing show as well. Thanks for the responses.

I used to visit Boston a lot as I had family in the Concord area. I was always asked about Bobby Orr, as that was during the last Bruins Ice Age !
