Does anyone know of charities which accept office furniture and pick it up? I am finding that the only items that most charities pick up are household furniture items. I need to get rid of office furniture ASAP. Thanks,

I posted a reply the other day but for some reason it didn't show up. You might be able to find someone through your local freecycle to pick up the items.

What is freecycle? Is it a charitable thing or like Craigslist? I'd prefer to have the furniture go to a charity if they would pick it up. Also, I really need to clear it out without multiple trips back there, so a one time pick up is best for me if I can do it.

Thanks,

freecycle is a community group where people post things for free that other people need and agree to pickup. It's not a charity. I wish I knew of a charity that was looking for office furniture but I don't offhand.

Most office furniture is not that desirable to charities. And very heavy and bulky. And charities don't like to tie up their retail floor space with it because their customers aren't interested in buying it. Just look at any thrift shop or charity event sale and you will see that they just don't have used office furniture on the premises.

Scarlett68,

At times, I have just put stuff out in front of my house and people would pick it up. This has been very effective for me. I am not sure of your location, but many people do this. Put a "FREE" sign on it. Just a thought

I check out Habitat Restore every once and awhile. In case you are unfamiliar with this nonprofit, it is part of Habitat for Humanity. They take everything from appliances to furniture to DIY supplies such as closet folding doors and hardware for cabinets. They then resell the items to customers and the proceeds go to the philanthropy. There are several Restores around the Boston area.

I have seen filing cabinets and office chairs being sold there.

To donate, you call the nearest Restore and make an appointment for them to pick up what you have. There is no charge for pickup. The items need to be in good condition.
