Hello. I am from PA and I have a 4 day weekend coming up and was considering visiting Boston for the weekend. Just wondering for any of you local craft beer fans in the area, are there any craft beer festivals scheduled for this weekend worth checking out?

Looks like according to BA's calendar of events that there are a couple of beer events this coming weekend but no festivals.

If you like craft beer though, there are a number of good beer bars in Boston like Sunset Tap, Yardhouse, and many more that you could check out. Plus, there are tours available at the Harpoon and Sam Adams breweries that are fun.

No fests I know of. Keep in mind there are many great breweries in the Boston area. Until recently that list didn't go much beyond Sam Adams and Harpoon, so it's a relatively new phenomenon for Boston, since about 2010.

Several have tasting rooms or are brewpubs. As for brewpubs, Boston proper has Beer Works, a solid lineup of brews in a sports-bar-ish atmosphere located right outside Fenway Park. Cambridge has the two original brewpubs in the area, Cambridge Brewing Company and the original John Harvard's. The new "nano"-breweries are quite interesting but most must be sought out in the urban sprawl just outside Boston itself. Highly worth it though. Boston proper has Trillium Brewing, brand new this year with a tasting room, in the Fort Point neighborhood. Everett has two of the most interesting ones, the innovative Night Shift Brewing, sharing tasting room and retail space in a seedy old warehouse building with Idle Hands Brewery which specializes in Belgian styles. Chelsea has Mystic Brewery and its tasting room, which does Belgians, Saisons, and wild fermented styles. Three others worth seeking out (no pub or tasting room though) on tap are Slumbrew, Backlash, and Pretty Things, each with delicious creations that build off but reinterpret traditional styles.

Of course Sam and Harpoon are there. These are fun but at this point lets face it, while these guys were trailblazers, the craft beer scene has moved far beyond them, and to only go these places would be doing yourself a disservice if you're a true craft beer buff.

Beer bars are plenty but I know them less well. At those, beware of $9 pints. Boston is expensive and Happy Hour is illegal due to the neo-puritans at the statehouse, who all hate fun, so there is no such thing as reasonably priced drink specials for Massaholes!

Not to take this thread too far off course, but with casinos who LOVE to give away free alcohol to their customers coming to MA I see the law that prevents happy hour being repealed or at least seriously modified.

There is an Applefest with German Food and a beer garden at Wachusett Mountain this weekend. The site says there will be a Maine Lumberjack show (logrolling anyone). Sounds like some good manly man fun happening there.

For a completely different venue, you could go to Head of the Regatta this weekend. I'm sure there will be lots of revelry around Cambridge.

I hope you are wrong about this. I hope you are not advocating this. If you are, then I think Needham is the perfect location for this new casino.

I don't know what ever happened with it, but at one point the bill being put through the legislature to legalize casinos also exempted them from the "happy hour" law.

Happy hours and casinos - The Boston Globe

I don't have a problem with responsible drinking.
