UP: thanks for sharing that photo. It's funny to see the orange line following 99 up to Everett instead of going to Malden. The fate of Everett and Malden could have been reversed based solely on accessibility to a rail line!

Used to live in Brighton. Oak Square is very nice. Sort of quiet and out of the way. Kiki's is nice and there are also some other decent stores and restaurants around there. CRI is down the street and the Oak Square YMCA is the best in the city.

And while it's unfortunate that the A-line met its untimely demise, the 57 bus runs along the root of the old A line, and runs very often. It goes from Oak Square, through Allston and Brighton, down Comm Ave, to Kenmore. I used to take that bus a lot when I lived there.

Historically Oak Square has been one of the few areas of the city where you could find the descendants of German immigrants - they didn't all start out in JP. I don't know how their numbers add up in comparison to the Irish-American population that predominates today, though.
Goyguy, do you have any links to the history of Oak Square's German history? I searched and could find none. I just like history.

Oddly, I found a website for some huge German cultural club in Walpole.

Sam Adams was founded by the Koch family. Not sure about the other breweries in JP.
