Just checking - Since there is no personal income tax in Florida and there is in Massachusetts, your take home net salary will be much less than the same salary in Florida - assuming you are considering this.

Also, if you are looking into working in a University have you considered The University of Rochester or Rochester Institute of Technology? If you are looking for 4 seasons and were willing to consider Boston (with it's cold and snow), I would recommend that you consider Rochester NY. (I moved to Boston from Rochester - grew up in Buffalo and lived in Rochester a long time - so I'm very familiar with the area.) The cost of living is a fraction of what it is in Boston and although it is not a big city, it really does have many great amenities for a smaller city. One thing that Rochester has over Boston is many, many more parks, which I really miss. There are lots of nice neighborhoods to live, both in the city (Park Ave, Highland Ave, Cobbs Hill areas) and close-in (Irondequoit, Brighton, Henritetta) that would meet your criteria for both asthetics and cost. You would probably want a car in Rochester though ...

I love what I do for a living... it rarely (if ever!) feels like "work."

Atlanta is number 1 on my list now.

Smart choice. Good luck.

Thank you for this information... I will now check it out and see if it fits our criteria. I don't know much about Rochester, but I just looked at pictures and it seems VERY beautiful up there!

Why not try some of the cities in the Midwest such as Cleveland, Cincinnati, or Minneapolis? Are you having a hard time finding positions in that region of the US? The Midwest is where the affordable but not brutally hot and humid places are.

Yeah there don't seem to be too many jobs in my field in the Midwest. Although I did forget to mention a job I applied to in Toledo. There was also a job up in north north north Michigan somewhere, but my wife said she draws the line on that one. Too cold for her. So come to think about it she might not be interested in Rochester either.
