We are looking into possibly relocating to the Boston area from the San Francisco Bay area. I don't know Boston too well and was wondering which communities in the suburbs are more family orientated? I am a stay at home Mom and would like to live somewhere where there are lots of young families and other stay at home Moms. We currently live in a community where you rarely see anyone outside and it is very difficult to get to know people. People are polite and will wave to you but don't make an effort to be friends with you. I'm worried that I am going to find this scenario across the country.Maybe this is just the way society is today.

Welcome! We made the opposite move a few years ago, relocating from Massachusetts to the Bay Area, and then back home to MA. I'm not sure which area around Boston you're most interested in but in the metrowest, I know there are lots of stay at home moms in Sudbury and Sherborn, both lovely towns with excellent schools, nice parks, and lots of community activities. My friend who moved to Sudbury from out of state found it really easy to make friends, as there are lots of stay at home moms in her neighborhood plus a newcomers group, book club, their temple, and the nearby pool club. My friends in Sherborn have many of the same activities, meeting other moms through the newcomers club, at Farm Pond, town community activities that are very family-oriented, children's library activities, the Peace Abbey, etc.

There are lots of towns which would fit the bill... Arlington is a great town with lots of young families, I think Lexington, Concord, and Acton do as well. If you want more urban, try Brookline.
