Professorsenator explains pretty nice why to have a big house. I want to have an office, a small home theater, a gym, a library for a my tons of books, walk-in closets, and other things. Space is not a bad thing. It's nice to have room to play with the dogs and kids and to not have to be on top of each other all the time.

I have not seen too many 4000sq ft house on a 1/4 acre lot (10,000 sq ft.) around here. You want a yard, driveway, garage too?

There are plenty of land... I think the problem is you're not willing to pay for it... There are hundreds of builders looking and buying them every day. They are willing to pay as much as $500K for a tear down... so they can build a 4000sq ft house to sell it for $800+K.

One the biggest reason why housing is so gawdawfuly expensive in this state is that communities place so many restrictions on growth and development that they make it all but impossible for people to afford the home they want. The result of these constraints on housing supply?
Yes. Because everyone wants to be the last person moving into their town. Only the exclusive may apply..

The other reason is lack of good public transportation so people can live further away from Boston with reasonable commute.
