Revere is more than the beach, but it has a definite run down strip mall type feeling to it. It's seedy in a way that it's hard to put into words, but very unlike other less desirable neighborhoods.
I agree....and much seedier than it used to be......I guess they did not?? get to have their casino...that is going to be in Somerville/Medford area......I used to live there but been gone a long time.

The casino is going to be in Everett but that's another good reason not to move to Revere.

Last comment......I felt bad that the city has gone into real decay......my kids were born there, so always will feel an attachment....also to Winthrop/// too frickin bad they could not bring back the amusements at least to one part of the beach, attract families and tourists (this was my attitude last summer)...instead of a casino. I did not know it was going into Everett as have not been following, I am in LA. There are zillions of casinos in CA as other states, I believe MA was one of the few states left that did not have one. .....listened to all the upheaval...as it truly helps no one as far as revenue and jobs....only helps criminals and hookers etc.....and people would shy away from Revere Beach....
It is another example of expensive high rises against a back drop of poverty and scum......

Former Beachmont resident...lol

Well what great restaurants in quincy are there? The fours? Granite links? Alba? Ciros? I know quincy pretty well, maybe there's a new place I haven't heard of?

The statements you make aboUT the Irish bringing quincy down are pretty derogatory as well. If I ever said something like oh its the blacks who bring down dorchester because they don't value education I'd have the whOle board all over me for being racist. For the record I am irish and I have family who live and have lived in quincy. They were and are educated people. They went to schools like Colgate and NYU and didn't go to quincy public schools. Quincy was never simply working class irish. Plenty of lace curtain irish as well.

Quincy has never been a slum or dump, it's just never been much of a desirable place to live. not an awful place by any means and that's great that you like it. in have no idea what will be better in 5 years quincy or rozzy, its not a competition.

Apparently it is a competition for you as far as race and schools are concerned. I didn't realize I touched a sensitive nerve with you. If I offended you, then my apologies. I grew up in Milton and I went to Brown (in those days of the 90's, places like Colgate and NYU didn't count for much), so if anyone should have a derogatory attitude toward Quincy or even some in Milton, it would be someone like me. But I am pretty bullish about Quincy, that you have right.

Quincy's schools have traditionally been weak, and Quincy has traditionally been heavily Irish...so can you explain the connection? It certainly isn't the Chinese who are dragging down the scores and Quincy, to this day, has only around 2% population identified as African American or Hispanic. If it isn't the Irish, then I don't know who. As for lace curtains, I can't tell the difference. I am nordic swede, by the way.

I have read many of your comments about Blacks, both implicit and explicit. You are pretty blatant in how you feel, but you seem unable to take as much as you like to give out.

Regardless, this is way off topic. If you have a personal issue with me, then it's better to PM me. Back to Revere.

I just find it interesting on this board that it's fine for one to say te irish dragged down a town but god forbid anyone say blacks or Hispanics are bringing anything down. And quincy had been heavily asian for as long as I can remember. Since the 80s anyways. Many asians don't use quincy public either they send their kids to private. Many of the irish you refer to also didn't use quincy public, they sent their kids to private catholic schools. Oh and we know you went to brown (:

The Asians only started coming to Quincy during the mid-80's, and that wasn't so long ago. The city has not declined and the schools have improved steadily since. You can make any statement about Blacks, Hispanics or Martians you want because this is a free and great country. But others have the same right to respond to your statements, as you have to mine.

In any case, Wollaston Beach is indeed in Quincy, and while there, you need to eat at the Clam Box.

I know nothing about Revere, and I only added to the Quincy thread because several people offered it as an alternative.

I have been to the clam box and I don't like it. I'm not into the fried clams though. My husband on the other hand loves the clam box. I think asians have certainly helped quincy. I love fuji in quincy ctr, owned by a young Chinese guy who recently opened a place in cambridge. quincy mainly seems to be white and Asian. I think a lot of the asians also leave quincy once they are able to afford something else. Many go to lexington, concord or newton. Quincy while not newton is a better option than dorchester...at least it used to be.

I have nothing against quincy, it's just not as hyped up as you make it out to be. I've heard rumors about quincy ctr getting done over have but i have yet to see it happen. Maybe they'd do themselves a favor if they opened a swanky bar or a boutique hotel type place on Hancock st. There's lots of conservative professionals in the area who I could see going there. but there aren't a whole lot of attractive bars in quincy ctr or even marina bay for that matter. People from milton would surely go to them. Heck maybe people from hinghsm and cohasset would prefer to dine at some nice places in quincy than trek all the way into crowded trafficy boston. I'm all for opening some great restaurants that are not in boston cambridge or somerville.

Revere is just hopeless.
