Hi Boone -

Been to more than a few.

Dog? Cat? (There are places specializing in cat care.)

Which part of Boston? In-city, outskirts? Meaning do you need to drop-off early prior to work via "T", pet carrier in hand, or can you drive, so Brighton/Brookline are doable areas?

Also, low cost for which services? Some places will spay/neuter with lower cost than others. Or are you talking yearly exam?

sorry, Angell Memorial IS NOT low cost in any sense of the words!! It's a necessary evil if you have exotics and have limited means to get to vets outside of Boston (I had pet rats and no car and so visited Angell frequently), or if your pet needs some specialty vet work done (like cancer treatment), but for the average dog and cat owner, Angell can be very expensive. it's one of the top veterinary hospitals in the nation and you are paying for the expertise, the state of the art equipment, and maybe even for the name/reputation.

better to find a smaller, local vet (who, if from New England, likely worked at either Angell or the Tufts vet school in Grafton).

if you have a cat, there some inexpensive cat hospitals in and around Boston (I've heard about one in the Fenway and one in Brookline, but don't know how expensive they are compared to Angell and other places).

if you're looking for inexpensive shots, try Petsmart or Petco. if you're looking for inexpensive neutering (for dogs mostly), look for the Spay Wagon or other low cost clinics (some may be limited to only low income though). also, Tufts will neuter certain size dogs on the cheap/free to give their experienced students more practice

if you have anything other than a dog or cat, you'll find your options limited (the OP hasn't yet mentioned what type of pets she has or type of services she seek)
