I think the food was better at Jimmy's Harborside but being greeted by Mr. Athanas at Pier 4 was always a big deal.

This thread has grown. I regret that I participated at the start of it and didn't follow through.
I just booked my flight to Boston, and I sure won't be running out of places to eat, thanks to this topic!

Wait... TRUE Boston Flavor...
Does it mean Boston Food? What is Boston flavor or food? Something that's been here for years? I've been here for years... but never figure out what is Boston Flavor...
Greasy pizza, thick chowder, ... something that not good for your heart...

I like the Lobster roll, those are unforgettable. I love going into Anthony's Pier 4 and picking out the most agressive lobster in the tank.
Of course the Italian food is like no other AND what I miss most is the really good Pastrami Grinder, you just can't find it like that anywhere else.

Grinder? Maybe for New Yorkers or other newcomers. In Philly they eat hoagies.
In Boston we eat a sub, from submarine sandwich.

When I was growing up near Boston, they called it a grinder.

Maybe you grew up in a more New York-y neighborhood than I did?
I always figured a grinder was a sub that was heated in the oven (hot oven grinder), but a sub was eaten cold - in a pre-grinder state of non-heat adulteration.

I grew up out in South Lancaster and Sterling, Mass. What your saying might be true about the hot and cold thing. We usually had the hot pastrami grinders, with the provolone and mustard.

I grew up in Arlington and other lace curtain Irish enclaves close to Boston. Maybe the grinder/sub thing is a regional difference.

I remember Arlington, I remember seeing a sign for it on Route 2 on the way into Boston. Sometimes my Dad would be too annoyed to pay the toll so we would go in on Route 2.
