How about the phrase, "a whole n'other...," as in, "That's a whole n'other story." Does anyone outside of the Boston area say this?

And of course there's our perfect reversal of a's and r's, such as when we say Marther's Vineyid. It's like our brains say "get ready, there's an A and an R coming up--don't screw it up." But then we do.

When I went to college out of state my friends used to make fun of my for saying "draw." As in . . . where do you keep your socks? In the bottom draw. Until then, I always left the "er" off the end. Now, I'm very self conscious about it and always overly pronounce the word.

I remember my college roommate teaching me how to say it correctly. I could not say drawer.

In Rhode Island they eat grinders and drink "cabinets" (frappes)! I used to waitress at the old HoJos across from the Blue Hills (anyone remember that place?) and I learned what people wanted when they ordered cabinets! The first time I heard that I had no clue as to what they wanted! We didn't even have any Home Depots or Lowes back then so I couldn't be a smartass and tell them to go there!
soda was when you went to brighams for and the frappes had the ice cream in it. tonic was coke etc

I had a friend from CT who said grinder. I've never heard anyone from MA use the term.

I went to Emerson college in the late 70's early 80's. Back then, there was no campus, and most of the school was in buildings on Beacon Street. We'd often go to Brigham's across the Public Garden. I remember the first time I heard someone order a frappe. I asked how come they don't call them shakes. They said if you order a chocolate shake, you get a cup of milk, with chocolate syrup, and it gets shaken (whirred around under the frappe mixer but no ice cream).

I thought that was the dumbest thing in the world. I mean, what kind of idiot would pay extra to have their chocolate milk shaken?

Does anyone ever actually order a shake, and expect to get shaken milk?
