Indeed. I still remember the smell in there. I wonder if the hotel tries to mimic that.

That I don't remember, except after the bad flood.

It was a really cool place once. Now, not so much. No reason to go there except for the Island Creek Oyster Bar.

Yes when there was sawdust on the floor for weeks after. Also, Deli Haus and captain Nemo's pizza were two great spots back then.

I honestly haven't been back there since the days of the Rat, etc. Haven't had a reason to.

No more "sketchiness" in that area. Now it's as boring as it is expensive.
I'll remember the times I had at the Rat and Fathers for the rest of my life.

Once again, the OP asked about the Back Bay Fens park, part of the Frederick Law Olmstead Emerald Necklace -- not the Fenway neighborhood which comprises the West Fenway and the East Fenway sections.

Asked about Park Drive, part of which faces "The Fens." That's the nickname, I believe, used specifically for the park across the street where some dangerous and illicit activity occurred with more regularity than now. People likely don't use that exact nickname anymore?

In my opinion, the neighborhood was never truly seedy, sketchy or dangerous, even in the mid-to-late 80s when I knew people living there.

Well, there were streetwalkers around Hemenway and Westland, but not a warzone...
