Where's the OP?

Which online crime map do you think is best? Depends on the neighborhood of Boston? I realize the South End News, Fenway News (just a monthly), Allston-Brighton Tab and The Brookline and Newton Tabs may still have some info, but what do you suggest?

The police cars have BPDNews.co on the side of the car, but when I visited the site over a year ago, it didn't seem to offer much crime data unless I missed something.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The B line is notoriously bad, so I'm looking to move closer to the C line if possible.

Hey Bostonguy1960, I thought from your username you'd speak better to this knowledge than me. Since you asked, I mostly used crime map. Brookline also has a police blotter blog online.

I would look at Washington Square in Brookline. You have access to the C and D lines of the green line and it's a nice area. Really good spot.

Although to be fair, the C line will still also be packed for rush hour. It's better than the B, but it's not like a night and day difference. It will still take longer than you think it should, and when all the trains go underground at Kenmore, all bets are off. "This train is standing by" is a phrase you will come to hate.

I am re-opening this thread since I have a couple of questions similar to the OP. In trying to cut down the commute, I found a couple of apartments at the intersection of Kelton and Commonwealth. Specifically in the 147 Kelton place building.
Does anyone have any comments about this building, the neighborhood (safety, noise, walkability), and commute to BU on the B line and commute to downtown?

Thanks !

My girlfriend lives two blocks away on Cambridge Street. She goes to BU every day. The area is fine, not a whole lot to worry about. Pretty quiet in general. Walking distance to most things, though a grocery store is not right by. Going further west will require walking up a decent sized hill too, if that's a concern at all. The B line is pretty slow, but only going to BU isn't awful. If you're going downtown to Park Street or Govt center, figure that's going to take 45 minutes. A bike is much faster. I am not a fan of the B line at all. But it's not like it will ruin your quality of life.

I second what the poster above me said. I used to live a little further up Kelton (the block of blue-awning Samia buildings), then moved to Packard's Corner a year ago. Kelton was MUCH quieter (in terms of foot traffic) and perfectly safe. The only real noise issue we had is we could hear the T, but it was nothing intrusive. We used to walk to the Star Market at Packard's for our weekly grocery shop, though you could also walk to the Stop and Shop near Everett Street.

You might get a little noise from Harry's Bar and Grill on that corner. We never noticed it getting too rowdy but other posters may have more experience of it.

I live right where you are talking about and safety is not an issue at all. I honestly wouldn't worry walking about at any time of the night.

If you want to take the C, it's not that bad of a walk if you cut through to Washington St and down to Beacon (10 mins for me from the corner of Vinal/Allston.

Just realized this ancient....

But to the re-opener: Kelton is pretty quiet and an easy commute to BU. Really easy walk to stores and restaurants on Harvard. Closest grocery store is BFresh on corner of Harvard and Comm fyi

I live in Brighton, on the corner of Commonwealth and Chestnut Hill. I'm next to the B-line and less than a 5 minute walk to the C and D-lines, I feel very safe in my neighborhood. If I had to take my dogs out at 2am, I'd do so without hesitation. We love it here so much, we are renewing our lease in September.
