I heard on the radio two days ago that the Celtics season is sold out. I don't know if they meant all season tickets or all tickets, period (as I'm not sure regular season game tickets have even gone on sale yet).

Tried searching for verification of this in print (all most certainly due to the Kyrie trade), but nothing found.

Not at all.

There were a handful of games in the past few seasons, each yesr, that drew just under 18,000 of the 18,626 capacity. And season tix would have been available for purchase; the large glowing electronic billboards just last year on 93 south around Leverett Circle would occasionally advertise season tix.

Just like the Red Sox sell out every game -- not. There are still some April , May and likely games next month which will fall short of capacity by 1,000-2,00 seats..

Agreed. I've gone to more than a few Celtics and Sox games. In the past few seasons, I usually bought Celtics tickets the day before or day of game. Mostly full, but the only games that I've gone too that were probably true sell outs were when the Cavs came to town. Sox games are kinda weird. They always have close to a sell out, but it seems to me that frequently I have no neighbors in the seats (usually grandstands). People come late and leave early I think. I believe it's gotten to be more of a 1.5-2 hour stop on a list of night out events to do, between bars that you can wear special clothes to. Just my perception though. Doesn't seem like it's really about the baseball too much anymore.

Fenway is usually pretty full, but I think more of it is season ticket holders not showing up. missing a game or two isn't a big deal for the Red Sox.
but if you look at TV ratings, The Red Sox are about equal to Celtics+Bruins (actually I bit higher)
and similarly, the Bruins have higher TV ratings and on the Radio if there is a conflict the Celtics get booted to the secondary channel. So I would say the Bruins>Celtics

I stand corrected, last two years were 98.1 and 99.6. %

The Red Sox were down almost 20% for local TV ratings just a couple of months ago...but in a weei.com report from Alex Reimer the other day, Red Sox tv ratings have rebounded due to their stellar play, now near last year's ratings levels. But it noted attendance is down slightly from last year (I believe reports of local TV ratings being down two months ago then indicated attendance at that point was up. Regardless, the smallest crowd was likely still over 35,000-36,000 plus out of a capacity of 37,000 plus. Hardly any baseball team can sell out every game, as there are too many games....even San Francisco lost their years-long sellout streak just last month.

(Confusing perhaps, and no interest to most people, I realize.)

The Celtics are so much more popular than the Bruins since the playoffs and the summer additions of Kyrie Irving and Hayward. At this point, the Celtics have blown the Bruins off the sporting landscape, and it'll get worse. Hockey fans such as myself can't deny it...and this will be the way for the next five years, maybe ten years? Not that excited for the hockey season, and I'll be following the Celtics more than ever, as they're compelling and sexy. The Celtics will likely double the Bruins tv ratings this year.

The Cs is would have to triple their TV ratings to double the Bruins. (~2 vs ~3 right not Sox got ~5.5 for the first 1/2).

Of course you live in Quincy so your experience might be Cs>Bs but if you go to the Merrimack Valley or North Shore the Bs are much more popular. The old saying is if the Tobin was closed you might as well cancel the game.

As a region, Basketball is not as popular as hockey as a spectator sport. So all things being equal it's really not close between the Celtics and Bruins. Just think about this BC has an ACC basketball team and Merrimack Hockey would upstage UNC basketball. Name another town that's remotely true other than Minneapolis.

That's just not true in my opinion and the only reason there is even a debate is because of what the old AD did to the once top 20 BC Athletic Department. (2007) If you said BU hockey i'd probably say maybe. When Duke or Carolina come to Conte Forum , even now, the coverage dwarfs Merrimack Hockey, that's if any newspaper is even covering it the Warriors, sans the Tribune.

The only time BC seems to get press for Basketball is its post-mortem.
The Beanpot and HEA playoffs often are the front page of the sports section in the Herald and Globe, nothing in New England college basketball comes close.

Its really undeniable that Hockey is the more popular spectator sport in the Boston area. Even in the teams current state, the Bruins have higher TV/radio ratings than the Celtics. Whenever the Bruins are better its not even that close.
