I'm going to be moving to the Boston area soon and will be working in Beverly. However, I also want to be close enough to the Brighton area as I have family there.
Does anyone have any suggestions regarding places to find a studio for $700-900/month with relatively low crime? I also would like the area to be quiet at night but still have good access to basic necessities (i.e. not farmland). I am not particular about living conditions size (I lived in a small apartment in Manhattan) at all. I've heard that Malden may be suitable but I've also heard that it can be dirty in some places. Not sure if this is true. Location-wise, according to maps, Melrose/Malden is probably in the perfect location but I don't know anything about those towns. Thanks! |

Malden might be more affordable than Melrose. Melrose has become quite expensive over the last few years. In both situations, you will have quite a commute to Brighton from either of these towns, at least 30 minutes without traffic on a weekend. If you are working in Beverly, wouldn't it be a better idea to live nearer to work as that involves the bulk of your travel week? If not, you would find more for your money in Malden or maybe even Revere.

Thanks for the info! I totally agree that it isn't the best situation to be in, trapped between Brighton and Beverly.
I thought the prices go down as you move away from Boston, but I guess that theory is false since Melrose is pricier. |
