Default Cambridge to Westford commute

Hi,

I will be working in Westford, MA from the summer of this year and want to live closer to Boston, maybe Cambridge or Arlington. But I don't want to spend more than an hour commuting either. I will have to be at work from 8am to 5 or 5.30pm.. How long is the Cambridge-Westford commute? What about Arlington to Westford?

Which place is better to live in? I mean less shady, not so low income, and plenty to do in the area for young people, such as recent college grads? Any other ideas for locations? I'm thinking of around $1000 for rent per month (including utilities) with roommates. Is that reasonable for Boston? Thanks!
