Default Young Professional, looking to move to Boston

I may be looking to move to boston here soon, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about the city... and good places that a young professional may live. I'm looking for an apartment that is no more than 1200 a month... in an area that's fun and safe.

I'm coming from NYC, and know that city really well, but am less informed about Boston, other than... check out Back Bay, because it's like the Soho of Boston.

Also, I'm looking for street names... I went on craigslist, and though I typed in different neighborhoods... what came up was a lot of street names. I'll be working in Cambridge, but directly on the river, close to both the green line and red line... so I'd be looking for some place that would be close to either of those lines.

Can anyone give me any assistance on this?
Thanks!

If Manhattan is the most desirable place to live, then maybe Back Bay really is where you want to be. Commonwealth Avenue, and the A through H streets ((A)rlington, (B)erkeley, (C)larendon, etc.); or the South End; or Beacon Hill/Charles Street. But they are all expensive. Some people like living in the North End.

But if Prospect/Park Slope or Ft. Greene or Astoria is your thing, then your world opens up considerably: Cambridgeport (the swath of real estate south of Mass. Ave., between Harvard and MIT) or Inman Square, both in Cambridge; Somerville (squares Teele, Davis, Porter, Union). Brookline along Beacon Street or Harvard Street. You'd possibly be even closer to work.

Those are all key words in a Craigslist search or a visual Google map scan.

Default Thanks!

That is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!!

I was trying to go back and forth from a map, and looking... and it was difficult, as I don't really know the areas.

Thanks!
