Default March vacation in Boston, need advice

My wife and I are taking a week's vacation March 22 - 29 and have always wanted to see the historical sights of Boston; especially since reading about John Adams. I'm wondering if there is a central location that would be best to stay, and also, is it usually cold at the end of March?

I could recommend you some hotels near by the T-Line(subway) which aren't far away from downtown either. It just depends how much money you wanna spend for a hotel . And regarding the weather I can say it is very unpredictable. Today it was snowing and it is also very cold, but I don't know what it is like at the end of March. I haven't been living here myself that long yet...

Thanks for the reply. We are thinking we'd like to spend under $150.00 a night if possible, and would like free parking on the property (here in Las Vegas we never pay for parking & businesses are required to have enough. We were shocked when we had to pay for valet parking in another city. Here you just tip). How far does the subway go? Does it cover all the tourist sights? Does it go to Braintree? Can we leave the car in the lot and just use the T? Do you know anything about the trolley? Thanks for any info you can give.

Stay in Quincy - easy T access and you'll be near all the Adams/JQA stuff, plus the JFK library. You're only 10 minutes from the financial district via the Red Line.

Try to get a hotel near the subway - check MBTA.com for more information. Parking is horrendous in Boston and driving is always a white-knuckle exercise, so try to avoid renting a car. Even in March, it is America's walking city!

I too suggest Quincy...there is a Marriott then Braintree has The Sheraton...I do not know how much they cost but they are nice places and probably within your budget.
There is a commuter boat that will take you into Boston also called Harbor Express....it is relaxing.

Welcome to MA

Thanks for all the good advice. I'm going to check on the Marriott in Quincy. We are flying in to Manchester, NH, so I think we have to rent a car to get to the hotel. Walking more than a mile, or two at the most, is about all I'm capable of due to a health issue. Pretty tough for me to accept since I love to walk.

I was about to suggest the walking the Freedom Trail on Boston but it will probably be too far. You might think about renting a scooter because the Freedom Trail is just an amazing way to soak up Boston.

The Freedom Trail Foundation

This is also a wonderful place to visit. As a child I found it amazing how many choices were there.

We are now wondering if we should put off our Boston trip until April. I'm noticing that a lot of things seem to be closed until then. It had occured to us that it might be a little cold in March, which we don't mind, but didn't think about seasonal closings. The March date is because my wife has some use it or lose it time that must be taken by the end of March. We are inclined to go anyway, but I'd hate to miss the things we planned to see. Do most things close for winter or just the outdoors stuff?

Spring has already come to the desert. It starts in late February here, and with all the blossoms comes the pollen...and allergies; so it's good to get out of here for a while, especially in March.

I'd suggest that it is way better to come to Boston around spring time. Right now it is very cold and the weather is so unpredictable. Unfortunately, I don't know whether attraction/sightseeing places are closed during winter time or open throughout the whole year.

I hope your wife and you will find a good traveling date .
