I happened upon The Field Pub when I first moved to Central Sq and found it to be a fantastic date spot. They generally don't play loud music over everyone, so it's possible to talk unless it's later at night when it's really busy. And the draft beers are, for the Boston area, quite inexpensive. Now that I'm moving to Davis, I'm curious if there is anything similar I might find downtown, in Harvard, or in Davis. (Does Porter have bars even?)

Thanks!

Shay's in Harvard Sq is pretty mellow and the patio is nice in the warmer months.

I've always liked JJ Foley's on Kingston St in DTX. Just wait until ~8pm when the after crowd begins to filter out.

This is a great thread topic. I too am interested in what people suggest.

I'll add Tavern at the End of the World near Sullivan Square in Somerville. Maybe the Boathouse on Mt Auburn Street off Harvard Square.
