Hi,
I'm trying to locate a regular supplier of purple sweet potatoes in Greater Boston. I've been getting them at Whole Foods but am finding the price steep ($2.40 per pound). Does anyone know of a lower-priced option?

I just ate some the other day. I'll ask my wife where she got them. As far as I know we don't shop at whole foods

Wegmans has them. $7 for three pounds. Not that much better a deal.

She got them at Trader Joe's

I've never seen them before, so I have no idea if they were a unique or common item

Hi everyone,
Thanks for responding. Just to clarify, I'm seeking true purple sweet potatoes that are purple all the way through. Wegmans & Trader Joes carry them but only towards the end of summer for a couple months. What they sell now are likely Miyazaki Sweet Potatoes that are purple on the outside but white on the inside. Does anyone have a source for them?

Now I'm probably not going to Wegmans until tomorrow, so I can't confirm for certain that they're there, but the website claims they have:

Friedas

Potatoes, Purple Sweet, Stokes, Organic

Changing the way America eats fruits & vegetables. 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Purple skin, bold purple flesh. USA organic. Certified organic by CCOF. Frieda's Inc. – The Specialty Produce Company | Inspiring new food experiences for friends, families, and food lovers everywhere. Frieda Caplan, Founder. Product of USA.
https://www.wegmans.com/products/pro...s-organic.html

It also says they have them at my store (in Westwood) as well as the stores in Chestnut Hill and Burlington (I stopped checking after that, assuming your name is reflective of your location).

If you are looking for the beige outside and purple inside- other wise known as the hawaiian or okinowan sweet potato so am I- I bought them once at haymarket veggie stand. Can't find them since. I did hear last week we can find them at the oriental markets in the area. I haven't found them yet since that is not close to me.. but there is a super 88 and ming's market to check out on harrison ave. Next chinatown I guess. I think there is also one supper 88 at the dorchester south bay market area. Good luck and let us know if you find them. PS bake them at 350 for 1 hour until they ooze sticky stuff and it's the sweetest potato you ever had, like candy! <3 I love them myself. Good luck.
