And don't wait for the first hot day to purchase. Once they start showing up at Home Depot, Lowes, True Value, even the supermarket - buy one.

And now for the most ridiculous question:

How does one get the screen out of the window on the 4th floor to put the A/C unit it? (As I mentioned, I've never done this before... and it's apparently so obvious I found nothing on Google.)

Yup. Depends on the window.

I usually lay a 2x4 across the bottom of the window for the unit to sit in, rather than lay it on the window frame itself

HAHAHAHAHA!!! His screens would be four floors down, hopefully not on someone's head or car.

I'm the LAST person he'd want to hire but thank you, Bob, for thinking so highly of me. XOXO

The first time I installed a window unit in a 4th floor apartment I let go a little too soon thinking the A/C was secure as I closed the window. Thankfully I was able to get my arm out just in time before it went tumbling towards the sidewalk.

Holy CRAP!!! And I was just talking about a flimsy screen going down. My heart is thumping just thinking about how much YOUR heart must have been thumping that moment when the A/C went leaning. Great catch!
