I will be interning in Boston next January-March and will be working off Clarendon St. I have buddies who live in Southie and was curious as to what my best option would be for housing in the area. Also, what are my prospects of finding a decent place as I will only be up there for 3 months?

Budget?

That's the biggest question. With a large enough budget you can rent anywhere.

If I were you i'd look on craigslist for temporary accommodations or sublets.

What about looking on AirBnB? I'd think that an AirBnB host would love it -- it's a long-term rental for them.

Ideally, I'd like to pay no more than roughly $1000. I'd prefer roommates and not a single bedroom. My buddies have a 2BR in Southie and pay about $1250 a piece.

Just look for sublets on craigslist then. There should be no problems finding summer sublets from students gone for the summer.

The OP is not going to be there in the summer. It's from January through March.

I'll suggest it again: AirBnB

Even then I'd go CL first. AirBNB is going to be MUCH more expensive, that is a last resort.

I'd think that you could swing a good deal, though, no? They would love a 3-month lock-in in the dead of winter, wouldn't they?

I'm not sure how much room for negotiating there is through that site. There is usually something like 15% off for weeks, or 25% for a month, if people are open to it. I've never seen a "make an offer" thing on AirBNB. But it's still more expensive than a sublet from someone that had to go overseas for a semester abroad or whatever, which there are tons of in Boston.

Ah, I've only used it once -- in Belgium -- so I didn't know that there was limited wiggle room.
Good point about subletting from someone who will be away for a semester.
