This topic might be too controversial for some. Lol! All my DC friends say, "Washington D.C. is the most intellectual city on this side of the Atlantic Ocean!!!" I fire back, "Hahahahaha...Well, what about Philly or New York?!" They snarkily retort, "LOL! Well, what about them?!?!" They proceed to run down all these statistics and historical references... Yadayadayayaya ying yang.

The city Boston has some very intelligent people, and institutions that produce some highly intelligent individuals, so I don't understand this obvious disrespect.

This is why people think the east coast is pretentious, just FYI.

OP, I would counter; "well if what if someone just does not care about politics"? Because there are other areas of intellectual discourse that do not involve politics. I would not say that the topic is controversial. Thinking it is controversial, is pretentious. If that is your idea of controversy those are first world issues, IMHO.

Is this is a Boston vs DC thread by another name? Intellectuals are everywhere.

Can the East Coast get along? What is wrong with different cities playing their role, while admitting that there are other things about each city that no one ever talks about.

True, and the east coast can be very provincial as well.

Hahahahahahahaah...

Indirectly, it may be. True! Intellectuals are everywhere, but folks in DC act like they have the smartest people on the planet in that little ass district.

If they were smart they would be able to get jobs outside of federal agencies. They'd be creating value for others.

They were smart to get jobs IN federal agencies.

We need all the brains in these agencies we can get, which is difficult with the onerous hiring practices and low pay.

Certainly the place where people are the most obsessed with how smart they are, where they went to college, and what kinds of credentials they have.

If I were never again to hear "when I was at Harvard" or "one of my colleagues at MIT" it would be none too soon, I tell you.

Sometimes I want to throw in "when I was at Scottsdale Community College" or "one of my colleagues at Billy's Package Store" but I am not sure I could carry it off successfully.

As a former Bridgewater State College alum, I look down on your piddly community college, peasant.
