They aren't similar enough. Rozzie feels like a mix of JP and West Roxbury, HP feels like a mix of Mattapan and Dedham. HP could and maybe should be the next hot neighborhood but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Dorchester is a far more attractive area than HP.

agree there, most sections of it are...but HP is doing pretty well as far as home sales go yet you can still easily get a nice single family for under 500k.

If Rozzi had the redline I would maybe understand the attraction...but they dont yet it's quite pricier than HP

Bottom line is that it's ridiculous that people complain about how expensive the city is to live in yet dont give a second glance at hyde park. It's really not that different than dorchester...at all.

Agreed, I just don't like HP. Poor housing stock, unattractive neighborhoods.

I agree there are ugly houses in hyde park. Vinyl sided ranches aren't my thing. It's funny that many parts of the city have these beautiful Victorians (hp has a few) but mainly they have cape and ranch style houses. And the streets have very few trees which adds to the unattractiveness.

Roslindale has a much more life in its center than anywhere in Hyde Park. Rozzie has the Orange line in Forest Hills which far surpasses the Red on any given day. There is almost always a bus within five minutes to take you to FH, or its a 1mile walk from the square. There are 5 places you can choose to grab a decent meal or a beer. A decently stocked small grocery. Always a good mix of people out and about. Sorry, I just don't see that in HP. I grew up around there Roz,Hp,Dedham.. Rozzie and Dedham have significantly changed over the years. Hyde Park essentially looks the same. Dollar stores, cell phone stores and convenience stores. Fairmont is a tiny bit better, but still a place I have little interest in visiting.

The forest hills orange line is in JP.

Roslindale has improved over the past few years, has some nicer stores but I just can't justify the costs that I see people paying to live there. It has more attractions than HP and you certainly pay the price for it. Does every place need a gourmet grocery store and a bar in the town center to be worth living in these days though?

I'm just surprised HP hasn't gentrified more over the years as prices have surged. HP might not be the prettiest place, but it is mainly quiet, in Boston and cheaper than most other areas. The thing is that prices are rising in HP so I do think that many people are choosing to buy there and it's only a matter of time before it does get better.

Sadly I think there is an issue where white people tend to go where other white people are going and the majority are not going to HP.

Are you a Realtor in HP or something?

You may be surprised to know this, But people will pay a premium to be able to walk to things they do. Bars, Grocery, Bus, Laundry, Food.

Forest Hills may be in JP by Zip code.. But that is semantics. It still is one mile from Rozzi square. If you walk that same mile on the Parallel HP ave. you get Auto shops and braiding salons that may or may not be a front for something else.

Nope not a realtor. You must be one in Rozzi or own there. I guess HP will continue to suck based on its lack of high priced food stores.
