Places that sometimes have a bad rep aren't entirely bad. For people more familiar with these neighborhoods, which parts of Roxbury and Dorchester are most desirable?

Default Which parts of Dorchester and Roxbury are most desirable?

Areas with a bad rep aren't always all bad. Hoping people from these neighborhoods can add some insight on which areas are most desirable, and why.

Not sure on Roxbury but I guess the section closest to the south end.

For dorchester- lower mills/cedar grove area, savin hill, ashmont, Jones hill, neponset, Adams village...really the only areas of avoid would be most of fields corner and anything near Geneva ave and bowdoin st.

Where? The hills - Ashmont Hill and Savin Hill in Dorchester, Fort Hill in Roxbury. Why? Reasonably safe and cheaper than the trendier altermatives.

That's saying a lot given how undesirable the section of the South End closest to Roxbury is.

Mostly Dorchester east of Dot Ave, with the exception of The Melville Ave area near dhawmut. Lower Mills and Neponset/Cedar Grove are particular suburban and desirable. Roxbury would be Fort Hill and Mission Hill, many parts of Roxbury look nice(r than Dorchester) but they are really really plagued by gangs. So there's places aesthetically I want to say like Elm Hill in Roxbury or Lower/Roxbury South End..but can't quite say they're 'desirable'. There are safer more suburban areas in Southern Mattapan too.

I didn't realize it was. Personally Roxbury isnt desirable in my book...but clearly it is to others bases on the skyrocketing prices

Savin Hill today is basically what Southie was 5 years ago. The part over the bridge (on the side east of I93) has always been nice.

Dorchester is a huge neighbohood. I wouldn't even consider it to be a single neighborhood, more like a group of smaller neighborhoods (some good some bad).

I grew up in Roxbury and my mom still lives on the same street. I grew up in the area that borders the South End. She's off Columbus and Tremont near Northeastern. The area is now more for students. It has changed a lot.
Dorchester I would say Neponset/JFK area
