(I can't speak to Quincy, I have never had reason to spend time there).
Agreed.

Davis Square and Union Square (Both in Somerville) along with Central Square and Inman Square (Both in Cambridge) came to mind immediately when I read the thread the thread.

I do not know which is a good area for singles of my age in the town. Are there any areas popular for single professionals?
$2500 in Back Bay will get you a small unrenovated ground floor shoebox, you're looking at $3500+ if you want a 950sqft one bedroom in a modern luxury building.

Not looking to hangout in places where I may have to wear a suit.
Quincy has quite a few dives, but most are of the sports bar variety. I don't know of many places with regular live music, maybe on certain nights of the week.

Some of these commutes sound brutal to me. Will you be driving or taking the T?

Thank you all for the valuable suggestions.

My office is close to the great pond. I will be driving, I have been in Houston for last 12 years, cant imagine taking a train.

Does anybody have firsthand knowledge about Fenway-Kenmore area? How does it compare to places like Somerville or Cambridge?

You might as well rent in one if the new luxury buildings in Quincy or maybe even some place in Milton, driving there from pretty much anywhere in Boston will be brutal.

Yeah, its one of the things that really holds Houston back from being world class. If you're driving, you don't want to be north of Quincy.

They are all about 1/2 hour distance or so without traffic. It is rare that you wouldn't have some kind of traffic although granted it is better you are doing reverse commute. All good areas. Cambridge probably has the most interesting neighborhoods. Both Cambridge and Sommerville would have more ethnic food options than Fenway. Probably more young professionals in Cambridge, Sommerville. I would get used to using the subways to navigate neighborhoods as it's generally easier. I would focus less on the perfect neighborhood and minimize the commute. Google map directions to work from some of these places during commuting hours to get a sense. I agree check out Quincy too. It's on the red line easy access to downtown and there are some good bars there.

Somerville and Cambridge sound like what you are looking for. If you are driving to Braintree every day I would say thats going to get brutal. JP is similar, and would be a way easier commute. Not too familiar with where Great Pond is. But there is a red line stop in braintree, and if its walkable from there I would say Cambridge is a perfect fit.
